Salam Charity Launches Ground Survey, Trains Rwampara Leaders Under Smart Community Program
Salam Charity has launched a district-wide ground survey and community training initiative in Rwampara aimed at identifying and supporting grassroots development projects under its Smart Community Program focused on self-reliance and socio-economic transformation.

Salam Charity has rolled out a ground survey in Rwampara District to identify residents who have already initiated development projects, with plans to support them through its Smart Community Program aimed at promoting socio-economic growth and self-sustainability.

The survey targets individuals and community groups whose projects have the potential to benefit both the owners and surrounding communities.

As part of the programme rollout, the Smart Community team led by Karim Kaliisa, the Managing Director of Salam TV, has been conducting training sessions across the district focusing on unity, resource management, creativity, and community-driven development.

While addressing Muslim leaders during a training session at Bujaga Mosque, Hajji Kaliisa urged leaders to sensitise communities on proper resource utilisation and prioritisation of development initiatives.

“Seventy per cent of developmental work can be done without physical money by using available resources and being creative,” Kaliisa told district imams during the engagement.

The programme team also met the management of Buhihi Muslim Primary School to assess the education system and discuss possible interventions to improve learning conditions at the school.

Similar engagements were conducted with youth groups in Buteraniro at Nyeihanga Mosque, where discussions centred on socio-economic empowerment and long-term self-sustainability.

Women’s economic empowerment also featured prominently during the outreach activities. Members of the Rwenshama Muslim Women’s Group participated in practical empowerment sessions designed to strengthen household incomes and improve self-reliance.

Under the programme, Salam Charity donated support items to Kyompaire Aisha to help expand her retail shop in Nyeihanga.

The team further conducted field assessments on ongoing beneficiary-led initiatives, including a bricklaying project in Rwampara District, to evaluate progress and identify challenges affecting implementation.

In an effort to promote unity among religious leaders, Salam Charity distributed Smart Community Programme uniforms to district imams who completed training on socio-economic development and sustainability at Bujaga Mosque.

The training concluded with group photo sessions involving the Rwampara District imams and members of the Salam Charity team.

Salam Charity, together with the Rwampara District Muslim management leadership, also carried out an assessment of the Smart Community Programme’s progress in the district to guide future interventions.

The organisation says the programme is designed to support already existing community initiatives rather than introducing entirely new projects, with emphasis placed on community ownership and sustainability.
